Through the KEWES website, you can file a new unemployment insurance claim or request the bi-weekly benefits online. The KEWES website also makes it possible for you to go through the eligibility review in a convenient manner, online. And if you are successful in your eligibility review, the system will also help you in the direct deposit set up — or if you wish to make changes to your direct deposit. In a nutshell, the KEWES website makes it possible for you to deal with all matters to do with unemployment benefits in a convenient manner.

Requirements for filing for Kentucky unemployment benefits online

To file for Kentucky unemployment benefits online, you need to have the details of the employers you have worked for in the last 1.5 years (18 months). You specifically need to have the employer’s names, addresses and phone numbers. You also need to be able to remember the exact dates when you started working for, and the exact dates when you stopped working for, the respective employers. You of  course also need to remember/have your social security number, as well as a mailing address. To file for Kentucky unemployment benefits online, you need to be equipped with a computing device that has a browser application and that is connected to the Internet.

Steps to follow when filing for Kentucky unemployment benefits online

  • Firstly, you need to go to Kentucky’s Electronic Workplace for Employment Services (KEWES) website. To do this, you need to put your computing device on, and then launch the browser application. Then you need to enter the address/URL for the KEWES website into the browser. The address/URL we have just made reference to is provided in the ‘links’ section of this article. When you enter that address into your browser, you are taken straight to Kentucky’s Electronic Workplace for Employment Services (KEWES) website.
  • When you get to the KEWES website, on the left hand sidebar of the landing page, you will encounter a menu. This menu has items like ‘Office Locations’, ‘Employer Services’, ‘Jobseeker Services’, ‘Unemployment Services’, ‘WARN Notices’… and so on. From that menu, you only need to click on the ‘Unemployment Services’ link.
  • When you click on the ‘Unemployment Services’ link, you are taken to a screen with steps to follow whenever you happen to be unemployed. Scroll to step 2 – which is entitled ‘File your initial unemployment claim or access your existing claim’. Within that step are several links, and you need to click on the first one, which says ‘File or access your unemployment insurance claim’.
  • When you click on the link that says ‘File or access your unemployment insurance claim’, you will be taken to another tab, where you will find information about Kentucky’s unemployment insurance claims system. Read through the information in this page, then click on the ‘I Agree’ button at the bottom.
  • When you click on the ‘I Agree’ button, a pop-up window will instantly appear, where you are required to log in by entering your user ID (which is simply your social security number, with no dashes), and your PIN which is to serve as your password.
  • If it is the first time you are using the system, click on the ‘new user’ link, and you will be taken through the new account sign up process, after which you too can log in.
  • Upon logging in, you will be required to enter a few other details, to complete the process of filing for Kentucky unemployment benefits.
